Country resume and CV guides

Resume and CV conventions for 36 countries: length, photo practice, date formats, address order and the sections local employers expect.

Resume conventions are local. Length expectations, whether a photo belongs on the document, how dates and addresses are written, and even whether the document is called a resume or a CV — all of it varies by market. These guides describe common practice, not law.

The conventions that change most

  • Photos — expected in parts of Europe, Latin America and Southeast Asia; actively discouraged in the United States, UK, Australia and the Nordics
  • Length — one page in North America and Australia; two pages routine across most of Europe
  • Dates — month/day/year in the US, day/month/year in most other markets, ISO year-first in Japan, Korea and the Nordics
  • Document name — resume, CV, Lebenslauf, Currículum, Hoja de vida, Rirekisho
  • Personal detail — what belongs in a header differs sharply between markets

Choosing your target country

Set your target country in the builder even if you are applying abroad — it drives date formatting, address order and photo guidance. Your language choice is independent: you can write in Maithili and format for a German employer.
